TECH EARNINGS: It's a big day in tech with slumping Google reporting after the bell and mobile-maker Nokia releasing its earnings before the bell Thursday. While Google is off its highs, the fanfare remains for many investors. Will the search engine giant lift the tech sector with big numbers?

BEAR TIMES AT THE BULL: It's expected Merrill Lynch will announce between $6 billion and $8 billion in new writedowns as they continue to fight the effects of the mortgage meltdown. With the expected new writedowns, the total since last October would rise to $30 billion and result in a third straight quarterly loss, a historic loss-streak for the company. Now, the pressure is on new CEO John Thain, who will be held to task for assurances that the firm will not need to raise fresh capital. Melissa Lee delivers the news and the takeaway.
