We've all heard that "History doesn't repeat itself, but sometimes it rhymes." Certainly it's hard to find anything even remotely similar to what we're witnessing today in the financial markets. "Unprecedented" has replaced "Conundrum" as the most overused word in the financial press. We have seen bubbles characterized by unbridled greed leading to mortal fear. All of them end badly for the asset class involved. Typically it's years before that asset class comes back in vogue, in this case it's credit and housing. Over time the stock market typically outperforms all other asset classes, now all one has to do is pick the bottom. Ah yes...now that's the 700 billion dollar question.
