Trade of the Week

Jeff Macke Who You Calling Mr. Softy Now!
I'M GUY ADAMI, AND MICROSOFT, SYMBOL MSFT, IS YOUR TRADE OF THE WEEK. I KNOW THAT HALO 3 WENT ON SALE THIS WEEK, AND IT WAS CLEARLY ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED PRODUCTS IN QUITE SOME TIME. HOWEVER, THE REAL STORY FOR MICROSOFT LIES IN THEIR EXPOSURE TO PCS. RECENTLY, BOTH MORGAN STANLEY AND BEAR STEARNS HAVE RAISED THEIR PC SALES FORECAST. THIS BODES WELL FOR MICROSOFT BECAUSE AS DIVERSE AS THEY ARE, A GOOD PORTION OF THEIR REVENUES AND PROFITS ARE STILL DERIVED FROM PCS. I WON'T BE WAITING ON LINE TONIGHT TO BUY HALO 3, BUT MICROSOFT IS STILL YOUR ON THE MONEY TRADE OF THE DAY. .

Don't look now my Fast Money friends, but the market is within striking distance of the records set earlier this year. For all the gloom and doom of the so-called credit crisis, I offer you some simple statistics: The Dow was up 487 points or 3.6% for the quarter, and up 537 points in the month of September after a tough August. The Dow is up 11% for the year so far. The S&P 500 rose 23 or 1.6% for the quarter, finishing at 1526, a 7.6% year-to-date gain. The NASDAQ was up 98 points or 3.8% for the third quarter, a year-to-date gain of 12%. But some crucial tests are on the horizon. First up, the Jobs report next week. We will see if the recent market turmoil will lead to another decline in employment figures. Also important – third quarter earnings, which kicks off next week with handset-makers RIMM and PALM. The Tech trade has been working so far, but will it continue? Then after that, the real fun begins, as earnings season gets into full effect. Remember, an open market is one in which you can make money, and we will try to do that all next week. I hope you join us - Dylan .
